Freedom monument Fruška gora

The Freedom Monument is located in the Fruška Gora National Park in Serbia and is approximately 17km south of the city of Novi Sad. The location is at an altitude of 509 m.a.s.l. From the satellite view, the shape of the monument in the letter “V” is obvious.
There is a parking lot with a small park and dense forests right next to the monument. The Freedom Monument is a memorial site dedicated to fallen soldiers of the National Liberation War between 1941 and 1945.
The monument was unveiled in 1951, and since then every July 7th is commemorated as Day of Remembrance of Fallen Fighters. It consists of a tall obelisk, on the top of which is the figure of a woman – the embodiment of freedom, with a gesture of hands raised high that invites the people to an armed uprising. On the pedestal from which the obelisk rises is a sculpture of a group of armed partisans. On the side walls of the monument is abronze reliefthat depicts suffering, resistance and struggle. The obelisk and the adjacent walls are made of limestone quarried on Fruška gora. The author of the memorial site is Sreten Stojanović.
